Ending December with a poem
Today we share a poem by Maria Coquemala. The poem is translated from Portuguese into English and we also share the contact of the publishing firm, Porto de Lenha with e-mail: editora@portodelenha.com.br, who edited her most recent work “Assim caminhamos” something like “This is how we walk”. Eventually it is a good opportunity for those who would like to learn Portuguese as it is a beautiful and simple approach to poetry.
Infinity
I have the age of all time.
I have lived hundreds of different lives.
I was a seaweed dividing, multiplying.
I was a monkey jumping among the trees,
rocked me with the music of the wind
in the vines of the ancient forest.
I was dragged into the cave by a Darwinian link.
I was a slave, I was a queen, I was a lover.
I am the one who cried the most painful tears,
when forever the ones I loved left.
The Mozart's Requiem brings them back.
Nostalgia takes me to old places
from childhood and adolescence, to marriage, to children,
to friends, relatives and brothers,
in forever unforgettable moments.
Heartache and joy, hope and frustration
succeed each other alternating in time.
I am the spirit that does not die.
I am the one that was, is and will be forever.
