Global warming and how we see it ...

talesforlove

Presently, the preservation of the environment is mandatory, on one hand, pollution and destruction of the natural places where wild animals and plants live (the ecosystems that constitute the habitats of living beings), and on the other hand, the global warming (increase of global medium temperature). The latter, as numerous studies try to demonstrate, since the 70's of the 20th century, results from the accumulation of CO2 (carbon dioxide; 2 oxygen atoms - O2 - and one carbon - C) in the atmosphere, due to burning of fossil fuels. Because this phenomenon is mainly “visible” when taking into account a considerable number of years, there are many people who doubt its existence, and even its real cause. For example, rising sea waters are one of the phenomena most cited as evidence; therefore, it is good to realize that it is already a reality ... the fun, fascinating, for the most curious, is to understand how this fact is proved: it is simple, there are structures, maregraphs, by the sea, like in Cascais (Lisbon - Portugal), which measure the difference between the “height” of the waters at high tide and at low tide, with the midpoint being the “0” (zero) point of altitude on the maps, from which the altitude of the mountains in land are determined... Now, as these structures started operating in 1882, we know that until today, the average sea level has risen about 20 centimeters. The estimate, until 2100, is that it will rise by approximately one meter. Fascinating ... it is also to know that the comparison of the current temperature is made in relation to its average value between 1850 and 1880, since it takes at least 30 years to calculate reliable "atmospheric" values. Additionally, these years were before the Industrial Revolution, a time when the steam engine revolutionized factory production and transport, and with its use the consumption of coal went up a lot, leading to the 1st great release of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere, due to human activity! We do not have original photos of the maregraph, but we invite you to a fascinating virtual visit, using the Cascais Town’s Hall page:

https://www.cascais.pt/noticia/mareografo-de-cascais-a-medir-mares-desde-1882

In Portugal, for example, there is still another one in Figueira da Foz and, in the rest of the world, these structures also exist in many countries.

We also share this photo at the Garden of the Museum of Natural History in Lisbon:

A Sonnet 20 by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE and sustainability

talesforlove

Often we do not think about how sustainability and solidarity are intertwined. The inclusion of all human beings in society allows them to live better and share the effort to preserve the environment and realize that they are benefited in this process.

This sonnet is very illustrative of this fact, because the woman's face is painted with a part of nature and becomes an element of the nature, or that becomes even more obvious. Poetry is a tool of nature's aspiration to be considered our "real material" our real essencial element. In this Sonnet even passion can be considered a part of nature.

Sonnet 20: A woman’s face with nature’s own hand painted

A woman’s face with nature’s own hand painted
Hast thou, the master-mistress of my passion;
A woman’s gentle heart, but not acquainted
With shifting change as is false women’s fashion;
An eye more bright than theirs, less false in rolling,
Gilding the object whereupon it gazeth;
A man in hue, all hues in his controlling,
Which steals men’s eyes and women’s souls amazeth.
And for a woman wert thou first created,
Till nature as she wrought thee fell a-doting,
And by addition me of thee defeated
By adding one thing to my purpose nothing.
      But since she pricked thee out for women's pleasure,
      Mine be thy love and thy love’s use their treasure.

Enjoy.

Since 8 July: Contest "Nature 2016"

talesforlove

Follow us at: http://talesforlove.blogs.sapo.pt/data/rss

Dear Friends,
It is with great pleasure that today I inform you that the International Literary Contest "Nature 2016" has begun!
Unfortunately, regardless of the efforts of many people all across the globe, our mother land, planet earth,
 continues under the threat of the non sustainable activities that all of us believe are needed to our daily life.
In this context, the text of this contest in 2015 deserves to be published again here

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

The forest breaths and as a result the planet Earth also breaths, giving us the oxigen that we need to live.
 During the Winter, in the north of the planet, where the majority of the dry land exists, many trees
 lose their leafs and the carbon dioxide increases in the atmosphere producing a small increase in global temperature.
 During the Spring and Summer all the trees of the planet grow leafes and they capture carbon dioxide making the weather
 lightly fresher than it would be without their action.

To tell you the truth the trees are pressious everywhere, even if they are alone in a grey street of
 a city or together with a small group of other in a beautiful artificial garden. To grow a tree is to grow a friend,
 it is an act of poetry and who knows of the tales that the sun beams crossing their branches can inspire.

All the insects of the world and all the animals don’t care about written poetry because they have the visual
 poetry of flowers in a bed and the colorful grace of reefs. They purely enjoy the beautiful gifts of life!

But, do you know that if the mean world sea temperature rises by 2 degrees celcious that would cause serious
 damage to reefs? And do you know that the big secret of dogs is their friendship and friendly approach towards us?
Certainly, you feel that every living creature is Nature; we are Nature and we also deserve a poem…
 To protect flowers is to protect us.

Life is special and this is the reason why we invite you to submit your best poem or your perfect tale.

Alberta!

I'm sure that everyone knows about the environmental tragedy that took place in Alberta (Canada). An enormous fire destroyed during
many weeks the forest of this region and, at the same time, also consumed a substantial part of the lives of many people...
their memories and dreams. Nevertheless, we believe, they keep their willingness to build a new FUTURE!

This year we try to help in the reforestation of Alberta! If you wish to DONATE to plant trees, please contact:

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
