Forest fires in California have been an example of climate change. We can not forget this situation and above all we can not become indifferent people. We have here a video that aims to encourage our individual work in such a way that we will all achieve something positive. For example, if each one of us plants a tree and water it we will do a lot and even if we can sow some trees, it would be excellent.

And don't forget to submit your writing to our Contest "Nature 2017-2018"

Taking into account the International Literary Contest "Nature 2017-2018" we would like to stress the importance of the forest for today and our future. You are invited to write a poem or short story about the future of our forests. We can't forget the tragedy of the fires in California... since 4th December.

Bests.

It is with great joy that we announce the beginning of the International Literature Contest "Nature 2017-2018", which this year runs from 1 December 2017 to 1 April 2018. On 19 April are announced the pre-finalists and the April 28 the main winners.
We refer to joy in this announcement because this is the reunion of all of us in this adventure that has one of its great objectives to raise awareness for the protection of nature. A reunion between friends. This year, for example, California fires have made climate change evident. The suffering of the people was enormous and to note the replacement of a green cloak by the color of ash, it is sad. In the world, the fact that the concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere are at very high levels can only make us aware.
It is time to act, so here is also the invitation to participate in this contest and then the conditions of participation and other details.

In memory of those who died in the California fire. We need a fresh start in the relationship with the forest.

Flower Reborn (In Pedrógão)

Stubborn; As only a woman knows how to be.
Knowledgeable; As only a Goddess knows how to be.
Feminine and beautiful among the black of death,
reborn, alive, dependent on strength and not on luck.

Beautiful is your strength that gives color to the Morning.
Sunrise agape renewing Hope.
And the wind packs it, shrouded in gray dust,
that everything around him contemplates her Dance.

It is she, the Flower, who rises on the mountain,
Again, to prove that, who sowed her, was right  ...
To prove that a Goddess looks at us from the front:
without fear, despite the lifes the wind took.

During the Book Market Fair in Lisbon (2017) it was possible to interview Paula Hawkins. It was a very exciting experience and a privilege to speak with a writer with such a big success in thriller novels. Her answers were very important to us in order to better understand who is a writer and how life influences their work.

What does being a writer mean to you?

Writing is more a vocation than a profession: I’m lucky enough to be able to earn a living by doing it, but I think I would write – just as I always have written – even if I wasn’t published.  Since childhood I have relished making up stories: it took until I was in my thirties to find the confidence to show those stories to others, but the urge to create fiction has never left me.

Which season of your life do you think had the most influence on your writing?

Possibly my late teens/early twenties, which was the time at which I left Zimbabwe, where I grew up, and moved to London, where I live now. Those years were turbulent, and often lonely – I wrote a great deal at the time. At nineteen, I moved to Paris and lived there for a year. That was the first time I had lived alone, in a foreign city, speaking a language I struggled to master. It was lonely, again, but exciting too.

Is it possible for a writer to create their work without consideration for the feelings of the people around them?

I think perhaps it is possible, though I’m not sure that it should be. Writing is, for me, an exercise in empathy, in understanding others, in being able to place yourself in the position of another and imagine their thoughts and feelings. It would be strange then if while imagining the thoughts and feelings of fictional characters, one were to ignore the feelings of the real people in the society we live in.
