Ghosts in The High Water - Part III

talesforlove

We found the watch and continued to the restaurant to make a phone call and this time I was decided to use a borrowed mobile phone, because I didn't want to leave her alone.
— Its 10h39 p.m., we have to hurry up.
As my mother answered I felt relief.
— Mother… Yes, I know…
I explained everything, but she didn't understand.
— You know that I don't want you with that girl! She's not a good person!
I was of my mind, and immediately lost the control of the situation.
— But, are you coming here to help us or not?! I cannot accept that you forbid me to be with the person I like the most!
Your eyes were clouded with innocence and fear, and retained tears because of a situation that you didn't know anything about. And my eyes were clouded with anger.
— Yes... We are going to wait near the restaurant High Water.
I turned off the mobile phone and wanted to pay the gentleman who lent it to me, but he, with a look full of wisdom on his face, that looked as like it was made by the marine winds, with deep wrinkles and a salient vein on his forehead, answered:
— No, my young man, it was a pleasure to help you both.
And, with his hardened hands, who knows by ship cords, picked up the mobile phone and without hesitation, he continued his meal. His spouse looked at him with affection and took his right hand, as soon as he finished that magnanimous gesture.
— After all… What's going on?!
You asked me unquietly.
— My mother dislikes our relationship, but we must believe that everything is going to be ok. Just trust me. Do you?
— Yes.
I kept my arm around your shoulders, as we approached the street.
— Do you believe that story of the ghosts?
— I haven't seen ant until now.
The cars were passing by at a high speed, but we didn't notice them…

Ghosts in the High Water - Part II

talesforlove

— Were you looking for someone?
— Well, not really… do you know the story of the boyfriends in this beach? I can see you don't. I’ll tell you. It is said that this beach is haunted by the ghosts of two lovers... They enjoyed bathing themselves near the water… until one day… one day, her father, who didn't approve their relation, found out that they usually ran away to the seashore and he managed to release a pre-historic monster to devour them at the sunset … and that was what happened. But it seems that someone saw them after the tragedy… This is the reason of my curiosity. Sorry about this.
And he arrived at an inconvenient time and he disappeared immediately, going to the other extreme of the beach. The shadow of that black figure reflected on the red colour of sun on the sand.
— I'm no longer ok here, let's go!
The day light was vanishing, and when we arrived at the parking space we noticed that our car had been stolen. Neither the mobile phone nor clothing were there. We had to return to the beach and we went to a restaurant to make a phone call.
When I was getting close to the windows near the entrance, I looked inside and noticed that only an employee, dressed with XVIII century clothes, theatrical. He had also noticed us. — Let's go!
Your worried voice incited me to quicken the pace. But you stood at the door. I entered, and when I asked to make a phone call the employee was no longer the same. I looked to see you and you stood quietly, I saw your hair flying with the wind of the night, while you were looking towards the beach. Nevertheless, the telephone was occupied. I came to you… but, — Where did you go?!
I thought I saw you from afar, near the water, under the moonlight. — Wait!
I ran in your direction and held you in my arms. The night was beautiful, so we stayed there. We felt that place was safer at the seashore… but there was no strong reason to believe that.

To embrace you, was more than one simple sign of relief or manifestation of what I felt for you. Both of us were feeling two hearts so close that they seemed to be interconnected by arteries and veins, flooded with blood, in an asynchronous rhythm but sharing the same space.
— Why did you come? Aren't you conscious of the danger that means being here at this time of the day?!
— And you?! If you knew about the danger, why did you come with me?!
— But… why are you telling me that?
That answer made me worry.
— You can't let yourself be influenced by what a child says… that boy that appeared to us is the problem, isn't he?  Admit it.
— Yes, but our car vanished… there are robbers out there!
— Look around us. Do you see anyone?
I looked to my wrist, but the moonlight revealed a lost watch.
— Let's make the path back to the restaurant.
Far away, but some how close, the laughs at the esplanade were making us more confident.
— Look! It's there!

2nd Part

talesforlove

She was beautiful, but more than that she had a unique way of

being. I met her just three years before on a Sunday afternoon in August,

at a beach of Alva river. She and her sister, Raquel, were not usual visits,

but one afternoon was enough to met them at the esplanade, and that

changed my life. Her eyes caught mine as if calling me and almost

without explanation we could not see anything else more but each other.

Complicity grew up when we knew we were studying at the same school

and the same subject… and more than that, we were living in neighbour

villages, just three kilometres apart, but we had never seen each other

before. Raquel stood at the esplanade observing the reflexes of the sun on

the treetops, and I was teaching Madalena to swim somewhere along the

lesson, I kissed her and told her I wanted to be her boyfriend. Everything

was very quick, she admitted that was feeling the same but was not

prepared for such a serious relationship. It was better to stay like we were

because she was afraid of getting hurt. Of course I respected her feelings

and we never got separated again. Everything that was affecting one of us

would affect the other.

The story of the enchanted fountain also encouraged me to give

her that nobility title. There was a legend about a Princess, of a very old

Kingdom, that was in love with a young noble, that although of a good

heart and hard working spirit, the King was not confident about him

being his successor. But the Princess endless love kept her going there to

meet her noble, near that fountain. Nevertheless, a spy told everything to

the King and he demanded the noble to be decapitated, and the Princess

did not know anything. Also it was demanded to be put a piece of paper

near a fountain. The Princess read the note and noticed that it was forged

and got suspicious about everything. Then she decided to continue to visit

the spring water, at the same hour, during the following days after that on

every Tuesday, of all weeks of her life, always when she was missing her

love.

Months after, feeling extreme pain, told to God that she was not

accepting having to experience that pain and because of that, after her

death, she would go to that special place to keep the same from

happening to someone else. In the meanwhile, by death of the King, she

became Queen, she demanded a fountain to be built on the same place of

the spring water and married a noble, that she did not love, just to

guarantee the succession of the throne. Nevertheless, one night when she

went to the fountain, she was surprised by a group of bandits that killed

her. Before that, she was robbed and they tried to rape her, but a very

strong and cold wind appeared, although being June, and they just had

time to behead her. After that she continued to visit the fountain but as an

inhabitant of the other world… the guardian of the beloved ones that

would elect her fountain as their meeting place…
